Abstract: Nitric oxide (NO) is an endogenously produced free radical involved in a number of physiological processes. Thus, much research has focused on developing scaffolds that store and deliver exogenous NO. In this seminar, I will present my dissertation research on the synthesis of N-diazeniumdiolate-modified silica nanoparticles of various physical and chemical properties for antimicrobial applications. I will also briefly introduce the work I am beginning here as part of the Duke Superfund Program on evaluating nanoscale zero-valent iron-based materials as remediation strategies.
